Teen Gets Life Sentence For Helping Girlfriend End Pregnancy

The insanity of the abortion debate is captured in the story of that a 19-Year-Old Stepped On Stomach While Girl Punched Self:

A 19-year-old East Texas man faces a life prison sentence for causing his teenage girlfriend to miscarry twins, even though she wanted to end the pregnancy.

Gerardo Flores was accused of causing the miscarriage by stepping on his girlfriend's stomach. He was prosecuted under the state's new fetal protection law.

Erica Basoria acknowledged asking Flores to help end her pregnancy. But the 17-year-old can't be prosecuted because of her legal right to abortion.

The defense contended that Basoria punched herself while Flores was stepping on her, making it impossible to tell who killed the twins.

The jury reached a verdict after deliberating four hours. Because prosecutors declined to seek the death penalty in the case, Flores received the automatic life sentence.

See if you can follow the logic:

* She wanted to end the pregnancy and if she'd gone to an abortionist, the babies would've been terminated....f*ck it, let's call it what it is...EXECUTED FOR BEING UNWANTED and nothing would've happened.

* The law used to convict this chump doesn't apply to abortionists. "Fetal protection" isn't, is it?

* An abortionist can kill as many unwanted fetuses as women are willing to bring in and he can get rich doing so, but a poor dumbass who provides the same "service" to a WILLING woman gets to go to prison forever.

A similar case is going on here in Michigan with a teen couple who ended her pregnancy by having Prince Charming hit her in the belly with a baseball bat with her consent.

Will someone care to explain to me why this is a good state for our society to be allowing to happen? Here's a chance for my liberal readers to get on their soapboxes and bellow about CHOICE and how the Jesus freaks need to butt out and blah-blah-woof-woof, but I want to know how they can square the insane disparieties of legal treatment of the exact same result: A killed fetus.

It's either OK to kill fetuses or it isn't - which is it? Should we allow "fetal protection laws" like Lacey's law to exist when they have that gaping Roe vs. Wade loophole putting the lie to it?
