Liberals claim that they're for free speech and have been shrieking constantly in the media - see if you can spot the irony here - about how the supposedly "fascist" (yeah, they're projecting) Team Dubya has stolen their rights and they have to give each other Grammys and Oscars and Pulitzers to compensate for their lost freedoms. (Nevermind that they aren't in prison camps like they would be in China, Cuba, North Korea or Venezuela for that lip.)
Of course, when it comes time to dealing with factual criticism, their first instinct is to emulate their fascist totalitarian heroes and use government to silence dissent. To wit the campaign to have this ad taken down:
If you give REAL fascists like Obama et al the power to silence dissent, they will most certainly do so if this is what they attempt to do while still on the outside. I know you liberal readers think that shutting down Fox News and Rush Limbaugh would be just awesome, but what if Dubya was hauling traitors like the editors of the NY Times and WaPo off to Gitmo for some summary execution? Giving government that sort of power only works if *YOUR* side has the whip hand. Since liberals are all about silencing their enemies, couldn't they at least drop the pretense of standing for freedom? Please.
UPDATE: Power Line wonders "Would An Obama Justice Department Be Used to Prosecute Conservatives?":
We noted here efforts by Barack Obama's campaign to shut down his critics' free speech. In particular, Obama obviously doesn't want the public to know about his long-term, cozy relationship with proud-to-be-a-terrorist Bill Ayers. Now, Obama himself has upped the ante by demanding that the conservative who funded the Ayers ad be criminally prosecuted:Well, DUH!!!! Fascists do fascist stuff!!! Clinton audited his enemies and Obama would probably set up a gulag worthy of his Soviet idols to deal with anyone who dare oppose his reign. (Hell, this blog will be Exhibit #1 at my capital trial for crimes against the throne.)Obama general counsel Bob Bauer today sent a second, sharper letter to the Justice Department, directly attacking the Dallas billionaire funding a harsh attack ad, Harold Simmons.Obama's suggestion that it is illegal for a 501(c)(4) entity to fund issue ads that are negative toward him appears ludicrous. Here's the real question, though: if Obama is elected President, will he appoint an Attorney General who will carry out politically-motivated prosecutions like the one he is now demanding? I suppose we can't know for sure, but why wouldn't he? If he demands criminal prosecution of free speech that opposes his political interests when he's a candidate, why wouldn't he order it as President?
"We reiterate our request that the Department of Justice fulfill its commitment to take prompt action to investigate and to prosecute the American issues Project, and we further request that the Department of Justice investigate and prosecute Howard (sic) Simmons for a knowing and willful violation of the individual aggregate contribution limits," he wrote.
